Q. What does ANSI Z87.1 mean?

A. ANSI is an acronym for the American National Standards Institute. ANSI Z87.1 refers to the standard for personal Occupational and Educational Personal Eye and Face Protection Devices. These standards help ensure personal eye and face protection devices provide the necessary protection from impact, non-ionizing radiation, and liquid splash exposures.

Q. What is the difference between ANSI Z87.1 and EN.166?

EN-166 is the name of the European standard and ANSI Z87.1 is the American equivalent.

Q. What is AS/NZS 1337.1?

AS/NZS 1337.1 is the current Australian/NZ Standard for Occupational eye and face protection.

Q. What is the difference between ANSI Z87.1 and AS/NZS 1337.1?

AS/NZS 1337 is the equivalent Australian standard to the ANSI Z87.1 US standard.

Q: Are all the Wiley X sunglasses AS/NZS 1337.1 approved?

A: All Wiley X eyewear meets or exceeds the US ANSI Z87 standard protective eyewear test, which is the US equivalent to the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1337.1. However, only a selection of Wiley X models have been certified to Australian Standard AS/NZS 1337.1 at this stage.

Models currently certified to AS/NZS 1337.1 include:

WX Vapor, WX Valor, WX Rogue, Saber Advanced, Romer 3, XL-1 Advanced, WX Gravity, WX Wave, WX Omega, WX Twisted and Spear.

For a more detailed material description or specification for any of our products please contact Wiley X Australia.

Q: Z87-2 is written in the temples. Is this the part number?

A: Z87-2 is not the Wiley X part number. Z87-2 is the American safety standard. Most of the Wiley X part numbers looks like SSREV1, ACZAK2 or CCJAK1.

WHICH MODEL SUITS BEST

Q: Which Wiley X model is current issue to Australian Defence Forces?

A: Wiley X Vapor and Wiley X Spear Goggles are the current issue eyewear for the Australian Defence Force.

Q: Which Wiley X styles are best for shooting?

The Wiley X Changeable Series are best suited for Shooting because you can change lenses for different scenarios and environments. The Smoke Grey & Clear Kits give you a tinted lens option for the outdoor range and in the field, and a clear lens for night or training at the indoor range. A Light Rust lens can be swapped in to reduce glare and enhance contrast in medium to low light conditions. The most popular styles are the Vapor, the Valor, and the Saber. SHOP CHANGEABLE SERIES

Q: Which Wiley X model is best to choose for the marine environment?

A. Polarised lenses are best for use when on the water as they reduce glare off the water and prevent eye fatigue and diminished vision.

Wiley X Filter 8TM Polarised lenses reduce glare off water and other light-coloured surfaces better than other polarised lenses available, and are better at filtering light which ensures high clarity and contrast.

Wiley X offer a large range of styles with Polarised lenses which are suitable for on-water activities including: WX Valor, WX Omega, WX Twisted, and WX Wave. All of these models are suitable for water sports or working in marine environments. SHOP POLARISED SERIES

Q: How does the Wiley X Facial Cavity Seal TM work?
A: There are various functions; Ventilation System – so when things heat up , the road remains clear, blocking out wind, fragments and peripheral light, all over full protection of your eye - also side wards.

TECHNICAL

Q: Can the Wiley X lenses be scratched?

A: Yes they can! All the Wiley X lenses are made of the material polycarbonate. The polycarbonate material is in itself extremely strong, but also flexible. The material needs to be a little flexible to be able to withstand the strong ballistic tests we make on the models. When a material is "a little" flexible it can also be scratch, but to prevent this from happening we have coated all the lenses with T-shell system, plus an extra hard coating. This adds protection of the surface of the lenses and gives your eyewear a longer life.

Q: What can I do to make my LA (light adjusting) lenses last longer?
A: The LA lenses usually have a lifespan of about 2 years. Life may be extended by storing the sunglasses correctly. When you are not using the sunglasses Wiley X recommends that you keep them in the enclosed hard case because ageing of the lenses is caused by the UV radiation.

PRESCRIPTIONS

Q: Can I order prescription lens direct from Wiley X Australia?
A: Yes, Wiley X Australia can supply prescription lenses. Contact us on 1300 945 399 to make arrangements to have a prescription fitted to your Wiley X glasses.

Q. How do I arrange to have my Wiley X fitted with a prescription lens?

Your Optometrist can arrange to have a prescription fitted to your Wiley X frame. Contact your Optometrist to discuss your requirements.

Alternatively we can arrange the prescription for you. Simply email us your most recent prescription from your Optometrist, and let us know which frame you would like to have prescription lenses for. We will arrange a quote to make and fit prescription lenses to your preferred Wiley X frame.

Q. What should I ask for when ordering prescription lenses from my Optician?

For the eyewear to be ‘safety rated’ the lens material used for the Prescription lens must be Polycarbonate. CR39 (Plastic) or glass is not suitable.

The polycarbonate lens needs to meet the requirements of Australian Standard AS/NZS 1337.6, which is the Australian/NZ standard for prescription safety eyewear.

Polycarbonate lenses (AS/NZS 1337.6) must be specified to the Optician / Optometrist, when you place your order with them.

If using as sunglasses, you’ll also need to advise your Optician / Optometrist what colour tint you want and whether you want the lenses polarised.

Q. Do RX inserts have to be made from Polycarbonate material?

Yes. lenses for RX inserts must be made from Polycarbonate.

CR39 (Plastic) or glass is not suitable as it could shatter on impact.

The polycarbonate lens needs to meet the requirements of Australian Standard AS/NZS 1337.6, which is the Australian/NZ standard for prescription safety eyewear.

Q: Can I order prescription lenses only from my Optician and fit them myself?

A: No. Your optician will need to fit the prescription lenses to your frame. A shatterproof lens and frame can only be guaranteed when the lab mounts the prescription lenses in the frame.

Q: Will my Wiley X sunglasses still be interchangeable with prescription lenses?

A: Only the SG-1 is interchangeable with prescription lenses. Please note; Most Wiley X interchangeable models come with two set of lenses. You will NOT receive a second set of lenses with your prescription order.

Q: Can I only order the lens tint and coatings from original model when ordering prescription lens?

A: No, you may order the tint color and coatings you prefer in your prescription order. You can discuss the options available with your optician when ordering.

Q: Which nose piece do i need to fit the Rx Insert to the Vapor sunglasses?

The Adjustable Nose Piece for Vapor (35NPA) is required to fit the Rx Insert to the Vapor sunglasses. If you have been issued with Vapor glasses with a fixed nose piece, you will need change to the Adjustable Nose Piece to fit the Rx insert. Adjustable Nose Piece for Vapor
